Grumps from Riga

Everything the helpful woman at Warsaw bus station told me was incorrect - time, destination and price. However, i boarded an earlier bus that went a greater distance for a lesser price.

Cash back.

Riga train station has nothing on Warsaw bus station. Firstly there is nowhere to sit down. Its full of cops that move you on all the time. Even from the waiting room. Where am i supposed to wait 10 hours, with my heavy luggage, for my train? Secondly there are no good snack shops Thirdly when you give all your polish notes to the money exchange woman she gives you a couple of coins in return. Its roibosh. No-one understands my Russian, everyones unhelpful and i just got thrown out of the women's toilet. I'm not coming back here in a hurry.

Comments:
Dear Hel,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience of Riga. I suggest the Lats all understood your Russian perfectly well, but chose to ignore it because they hate everything to do with Russia! Can't blame them really, Stalin having pinched their country and spirited away its great prime minister Ulmanis to the Siberian gulag where he was mysteriously done in by grinning Uncle Joe!

Let's hear more from you now you have arrived in Moscow.

As bus stations go I would reccomend the one at Cabanatuan in the Philippines.
There are plenty of concrete benches, facing in all directions and comfortable enough to sleep on even without a roll mat. There is a man on guard who will make sure that non-one steals your bag while you sleep.
It has a variety of stalls offering cheap food and drink and there is even a karaoke machine. I do not know if any of these are open 24 hours, but some of them were open at 1.00 am when i went to sleep and at 5.00 when i woke up.
Best of all you will be able to read/sleep/stare into the distance as the mood takes you without being endlessly harrased by 'friendly' passers-by asking you about America (a country to which you have never been), and missioning (a vocation you have never had and in fact feel some hostility towards).

Go there. (If you are limited to England then Coventry bus station is not as bad as you might expect.)

peterborough bus station also. now it has been repainted i would say it would be one of the top attractions
